Amy Beach String Quartet
Dvorák String Quartet No. 12, op. 96, American Quartet
This program features two distinctly American works. Amy Beach’s lyrical String Quartet marries Alaskan Inuit tunes with traditional Western techniques. Dvorák’s ever-popular American Quartet, written during his time in a Czech community in Spillville, Iowa, is redolent with the language and vernacular of folk song and spirituals—all wrapped up in Dvorak’s mastery of form and drama.
