Jean McMullan Visits the ACO

Atlantic Classical Orchestra Celebrates Its 33rd Season Finale with a Special Visit from Founder Jean McMullan

Vero Beach, Florida – The Atlantic Classical Orchestra, the oldest continuously performing professional Orchestra on the Treasure Coast recently celebrated their 33rd anniversary with one of orchestras founders. Jean McMullan attended the final Masterworks Concert in Vero Beach on April 13th, 2023. The ACO was excited to welcome her back for a powerful performance that featured beloved pieces and new compositions, delighting Mrs. McMullan with the sounds of the orchestra that she, along with her husband Andrew, started at the kitchen table of their home in Vero.

Mrs. McMullan, who will be celebrating her 97th birthday in June, flew down from her current residence in Asheville, NC and attended several meetings and celebrations with longtime friends and supporters of the Orchestra both in Vero Beach and Stuart. During the Vero Beach performance, she received an extended standing ovation as she made a brief appearance onstage.  Along with her onstage were her daughter Kathy Kopani, who played violin with the ACO during its early years, and Kathy’s husband, Den.

In honor of Mrs. McMullan’s rare visit, guests were encouraged to contribute to the Jean McMullan Artist’s Fund. This fund was started to help support the music and musicians that set the standard for classical music in our area. Jean McMullan, and her husband Andrew, began the ACO in 1990.  Through their vision and dedication, they carefully nurtured and expanded the orchestra into one of the premier orchestras in Florida. Jean’s husband, Andrew McMullan, beloved founder and conductor of the ACO, passed away in January of 2019.

The Atlantic Classical Orchestra (ACO) is the original Classical Orchestra on the Treasure Coast.  For over 33 years, the ACO has performed hundreds of Masterworks and Chamber concerts in the area.
