Masterworks II

Love’s Blossom

COPLAND  Appalachian Spring Suite

MENDELSSOHN Violin Concerto (Program Change)

SCHUMANN  Symphony No. 1

David Amado, conductor
Sirena Huang, violin

Sirena Huang returns to the ACO one year after her debut to bring Mendelssohn to life with her probing musicianship and technical virtuosity. The program opens with Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring, written for Martha Graham to dance to.  Copland’s piece paints a picture of America’s natural beauty – both its grandness and its intimacy.  Next Mendelssohn’s violin concerto, with no introduction and no pauses between movements, broke the mode of early 19th Century expectations.
On the second half is Schumann’s tender and romantic First Symphony—the ‘Spring Symphony’.
