Entirely Mozart

February 6-7, 2025

Guest Artist: Karen Schubert, horn
Entirely Mozart: Atlantic Classical Orchestra's 2nd Masterworks Series

Overview

Our second program celebrates Mozart’s genius. ACO’s Principal Horn, Karen Schubert, moves to the front of the stage for Mozart’s sparkling 4th Horn Concerto. Mozart elevated the role of the horn—usually relegated to simple fanfare-like calls in the Classical period— for his childhood friend, virtuoso hornist Joseph Leutgeb. They were showpieces then and continue to be dazzling displays of virtuosity today. The second half is occupied by Mozart’s final symphony. So called Jupiter for its combination of grandeur and good humor, it is a work whose emotional sweep paved the way for the next generation of composers.
